Welcome to the first official release of any sort of footage from Global Shuffle ! Yay.

It’s been 20 years in the making and first up is arms !

Arm movements have been lost during the commercial era 1997-2003. No surprise why, they take up too much room on the dance floor. You can squeeze more people into a venue if you use the dance floor for crowding instead = $$$.

So they haven’t featured in most new shuffler vids on Youtube because they were sadly long forgotten in the shuffle scene when Youtube hit in 2006.

So to help change that here we are with enough arm moves to keep you busy for months as you discover the top half of your body.

If you’ve got arms, use them. Even if it’s just to accent a hardstyle sequence.

You have far greater movement possibilities including your arms. Much of the rigid arm style in shuffling has been inherited from strict Irish dance.

The arm rigidity is a display of high trained discipline, like a military parade move. It’s actually an arm technique rather than just doing nothing, it takes a lot of effort to maintain rigidity when the rest of your body is stomping around all over the place.

But first a warning. Use your arms with lots of space, those walls can suddenly creep up on you, and broken wrists are never pretty.

What Do You Want To See in the Global Shuffle trailer ?

Let me know. I'm cutting (editing) it right now.

The movie is finished and if I do say so myself, it looks mighty fine. :D

I’ve made over 100 versions x 80 mins long to get the right combination of oldskool, interviews and new footage. There is heaps of stuff never seen before, especially oldskool moves. They'll blow your socks off.

Seriously I counted about 28 moves in the opening 5 minutes that todays shufflers would never of seen before.

But there's suspense too.

I show you the day to day life of the oldskool Melbourne Underground, or night to night life more accurately.

It's all authentic real life footage with some amazing tales that I don't want to spoil.

They unfold as a narrative throughout the movie.
So I don't want to give too much away. It's exactly like we did with oldskool parties.

You needed to work at getting to a party. It was a treasure hunt. You had to be at the right place at the right time to receive further instructions.

The venue was kept secret until about 2 hours before the party started. You had to call a prerecorded message follow clues, usually symbols or landmarks. You'd start meeting others going to the party as you got closer all glowing in the dark with fluro phats and flashing toys, easy to spot.

You invested yourself emotionally into the experience.

But will it be any good when we get there ? is a fair enough question before you part with your cash, I know that's what I ask ;)

This is one of my ‘Gallery’ pieces included in the Global Shuffle soundtrack. It is designed for installation in an art gallery environment.

HOW TO LISTEN

ART GALLERY
Typically it involves multiple speakers arranged in the gallery to provide an immersive listening experience, with Doppler effects as listeners move throughout the space.

DOMESTIC SYSTEM
For domestic use it is best heard on a 5.1 home theatre system with a good sub-bass woofer.

HEADPHONES
Headphones with good bass capabilities are ideal for experiencing Binaural and Monaural beats - Sit or relax comfortably with headphones on and close eyes.

EQUIPMENT
The piece was created on Moog Modular V by Arturia screenshot below.

The work was performed live in my Nicholas Building studio (Melbourne CBD) all in one take. The work was generated from silence using only one synth, recorded direct to analog cassette audio tape from the stereo outputs, then digitally recaptured.

This is the original 1960’s analog Moog that it was based on

How to run a Meet-Up

Meet ups are casual, fun and an excellent way to meet other shufflers in your area.

They’re really easy to do, and there’s lots of ways you can structure them, from just 5-6 people to 100’s.

DANCE CONCEPT
The Melbourne Shuffle is a dance concept. It uses all sorts of moves like building blocks, and you shuffle these moves around to suit your mood. The basic moves are easy to learn, but will take years of regular practice to reach pro level.

SHUFFLE MOVES
Stomps, turns, spins, shuffles, back steps, hand moves, lifts, jumps, hops, arm moves, elbow moves, hi-kicks, lo-kicks, glides, running man, kick behind, ...and always adding ;)

SHUFFLE GENRE'S
Oldskool, Hardstyle, Rock, Competition, Freestyle, Group Formation

SHUFFLE TERMS
Style: A collection of shuffle moves.
Sequence: A fixed order of shuffle moves.
Routine: A choreographed combination of shuffle moves.
Meet-Up: A casual gathering of Shufflers usually free in a public place, mall, carpark etc, to meet other shufflers and Shuffle.

Shuffle Vid: A youtube video of someone shuffling.

Shuffle Comp: A shuffle competition for individuals and crews.

Shuffle Crew: A group of friends who are interested in Shuffling.

Shuffle Team: A shuffle crew who perform or compete in Shuffle competitions.

Pro: An experienced and talented Shuffler.

> SHUFFLE CULTURE
Shuffle is 'All about the DANCE'. It's a dance culture, the Shufflers are the focal point. Where as RAVE culture is 'All about the music' it's a DJ culture, where the DJ's are the focal point.

> SHUFFLE RULES
The Shuffle saying 'There are no rules' came from the reality nobody in the oldskool would bother obeying them ;) But here's some general principles we're happy with.

> The Shuffle is based on freedom and mutual respect. Violence, hate, aggression, racism and sexism are not tolerated. The real world has plenty of that, and Shufflers are not interested in them.

> There is no restriction to creative freedom in shuffling. You can Shuffle to Express and Impress.

> The Shuffle can be danced solo or in a group. Both male and female can Shuffle.

> Group Shuffling can be unstructured like at a meet-up or structured in a Crew.

> The Shuffle can be spontaneous freeform or a choreographed style.

> You can Shuffle for fun, fitness, art or comps, or all the above. There are no restrictions.

> There is no limit to where you can Shuffle. In the street, carpark, mall, dance party, at home, outdoors in a forest, a city, a suburb, where ever you want to.

> Individual Shufflers are encouraged to add moves to the artform. Saying the Melbourne Shuffle is just one set of steps, is like saying spinning on your head is the only dance move in hip-hop.

> And who decides which new moves are part of the Melbourne Shuffle? Anybody! It's an inclusive artform. The Shufflers make it what it is.
